Larry Grant
aka "Hammer", or "Larry Bill"

When did you start covering Attica sports on the radio?

I started work ing at WBQR for Bruce Quinn over 10 years ago doing a
Saturday afternoon "Classic Rock" show and running the commercials during the sports broadcasts for John Dill and Jim Johnson. When one of them was not able to do play by play, I filled in for them.

What radio stations have you covered them on?

WBQR ( now "The Rocket"), WMRS, and WFWR

Have you ever coached Attica sports? If so, when and what?

Yes, I was an assistant coach for the 7th & 8th grade football team about 15 years ago. J. Bret Lewis was the head Jr. High Coach.

About how many Attica events have you covered? (and counting......)

Just guessing, about 350-400 games on air broadcasting. I started out as the PA announcer probably 20 years ago doing the Boys Varsity games. That grew to include the boys JV, Girls Varsity and then Girls JV. I would guess that I have watched about as many Attica boys and girls games as anyone in town!

Aside from the State Title, what is your favorite Rambler Sports moment?

Seeing Ralph Green honored for his years of service to the community.

When was the last time you went to a Varsity Football or Basketball game as a simple spectator?

Well, I have been to some Benton Central girls games, but the last Attica game was over 20 years ago.

How awesome is it to get to work with a talent like David Huckleberry?

It is and extraordinary opportunity to work with the caliber of people that I do.

How did WFWR get it's start and when?

WFWR was born from an idea that I had after WBQR was sold and left Attica. I asked John if he would be interested in "broadcasting some of the games on cable channel 5 since there was no local sports coverage. I called Bill House at the cable office who was more than helpful and we started broadcasting Attica and Seeger boys and girls games over the cable system in Attica and Williamsport. We got a lot of nice compliments but one thing we always heard was the fact that people without cable could not hear us. We would end up paying to use our cell phone to send our signal back to the cable office because the schools would let any other radio station who came to broadcast use the phone lines in the gyms since anyone could hear them. We decided to apply for a not for profit radio station license. It took about 2 years of hard work to get through all the red tape, but we finally got on the air about 3 years ago ( just in time for football season).

When did WFWR go on the air?
