COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS
CITY OF ATTICA
October 9, 2006
The Common Council for the City of Attica met on the 9th day of October at the hour of 7:00 p.m. at City Hall. Those present: Mr. Larry Grant, Mr. Harold Burris, Mr. Bill Craft, Mr. Larry Askren, Mrs. Valarie Maus, Mr. Tom O’Connor, Mr. Deon Swift, and Ms. Sharon Negele.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM PREVIOUS MEETING
Mrs. Maus made a motion to approve the minutes of the September 11th and the 25th council meetings, seconded by Mr. Burris.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Mr. Grant announced that the traffic committee had met on September 25th and concluded the best approach was to place a no semi parking sign on the South side of Bond Street and a 30 minute loading and unloading on the North Side of the Street. A letter was sent to Crossroads restaurant asking for a representative to attend the council meeting. No one representing the restaurant attended so the Council agreed to follow thru with the traffic committee’s decision. Mr. Swift asked Mr. Snoeberger to follow up on the task.
CITIZENS PETITIONS
Mr. Bryan James has requested a variance meeting regarding a garage he has proposed to build. Ms. Negele will contact Mr. Bowen to set a date and will contact the appropriate parties for attendance.
DEPARTMENT HEADS
Mr. O’Farrell reported a complaint on a property that has a new wooden porch that has an outdoor fireplace on it and there is a scorch mark underneath the device. There is concern for a potential fire hazard. Ms. Jordan will investigate the building of a new porch without a building permit. Mr. Snoeberger will also investigate the issue. Ms. Jordan reported that the city has successfully removed the dilapidated porch on 403 N. Perry and the shed on 1204 N. Perry. She announced the next task at hand will be the Lonnie Smith property.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Mrs. Maus brought the 2007 Salary Ordinance from the table and made a motion to read it for the third time. Mr. Askren seconded the motion, all ayes. There was a roll call for adoption, 5 ayes, 0 nays.
MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS
Mr. Swift asked the council to set the trick-or-treat date and time. All members agreed on Tuesday the 31st (5-6 Downtown business, 6-8 city wide). Mr. Swift also wanted to remind everyone that it is that time of year again with all the leaves falling down that we have an open burning ban. Ms. Negele presented details on the Hometown Matters meeting held in West Lafayette. She also presented information on some Rural Entrepreneurial grant money that is available.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to come before the council, Mr. Askren made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Mr. Craft, all ayes.
