COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS

CITY OF ATTICA

May 8, 2006

 

The Common Council for the City of Attica met on the 8th day of May at the hour of 7:00 p.m. at City Hall.  Those present: Mr. Larry Grant, Mr. Harold Burris, Mr. Bill Craft, Mr. Larry Askren, Mrs. Valarie Maus, Mr. Deon Swift, and Mrs. Pam Sichts. 

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM PREVIOUS MEETING

Mr. Askren made a motion to approve the minutes of the April 10th council meeting, seconded by Mrs. Maus.

Mrs. Maus opened the meeting in prayer.  Mr. Swift asked for a moment of silence for Nancy Evans, former council member and Attica High School teacher, and for Dr. Hugo Brenner.

A public hearing for the Community Development Block grant was held. The minutes to be emailed and attached at a later date.  A special meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on June  26th  so that the deadline for submitting the grant can be met.

 

CITIZENS PETITIONS

Kassie Wilson spoke to the council concerning the speed limit on Perry Street. She asked that the speed limit be reduced to 20 mph. to help lower the risk of children getting hit during baseball season. The council decided not to lower the limit permanently but gave their permission for a temporary change. The Baseball-Softball organization may place signs in the street during games cautioning drivers to reduce their speed.

A request for rezoning was submitted by Michael Altom and an Area Planning Comm. Meeting set for 6 p.m. on May 23rd.

 

DEPARTMENT HEADS

Mr. Jean could not be at the meeting but he left word with the mayor that the Street Department would be blacktopping in 4-6 different locations through out the city.

Chief Snoeberger passed out a speed survey that was conducted by the police department over the course of several days. The department has also tagged 50-60 cars recently. Mr. Snoeberger will check on the working condition of the siren at the high school.

The park board is interviewing for several different positions.

 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Due to the absence of the city attorney, the Swimming Pool Fence ordinance and the Flood ordinance will be discussed at the June meeting.

  

 

 

MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS

Mayor Swift reminded everyone of the Spring Clean- Up on May 20th. More information will be printed in the Fountain County Neighbor and posted on Attica Online.

There being no further business to come before the council, Mr. Askren made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Mr. Grant
