COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS

CITY OF ATTICA

December 12, 2005

 

The Common Council for the City of Attica met on the 12th day of December at the hour of  7:00 p.m. at city hall.  Those present: Mr. Larry Grant, Mrs. Valarie Maus, Mr. Bill Craft, Mr. Harold Burris, Mr. Larry Askren, Mr. Deon Swift, Mr. Tom O’Connor and Ms. Sharon Negele. 

 

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM PREVIOUS MEETING

Mrs. Maus made a motion to approve the minutes of the November 14th meeting, seconded by Mr. Burris.

 

DEPARTMENT HEADS

Mr. Jean reported that leaf pickup would continue if the snow melts.  Mr. Snoeberger wished everyone a Merry Christmas.  Mr. O’Farrell wished everyone a happy holiday.  He also reported that the State code covers the requirement for smoke detectors in all single family dwellings and all rental properties. 

 

NEW BUSINESS

Mr. Swift presented the Township Fire Protection Contracts and reported the following amounts.

Logan $8,190   Davis $7,475   Shawnee $10,595.

Mr. Swift would like to also thank Bob Lane for all of his help on the sidewalk snow removal for the downtown district.  In addition, he thanked the following for their dedication and outstanding workmanship; Council, City Attorney, Building Commissioner, Chief of Police, Fire Department Chief, Street Department and Clerks office.

 

MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS

The year end meeting has been set for December 28th at 5:00pm.  Mr. Swift raised the issue regarding the home owner’s liability of sewage backup.  The city has an ordinance that requires homeowners to have an installed check valve to avoid such a disaster and exonerates the City from any liability.  Mr. Grant suggested that we try to do a better job on educating the public about installing a check valve.

 

ADJOURNMENT

There being no further business to come before the council, Mrs. Maus made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Mr. Askren, all ayes.
