BOARD OF WORKS & SAFETY

 

January 20, 2010

 

The Board of Works and Safety met on the 20th day of January at City Hall at 4:30 p.m.  Members present:  Mr. Shepherd, Mr. Huckleberry and Ms. Sharon Negele.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Minutes of the regular session held on January 5th, 2009 was approved as prepared on a motion by Mr. Huckleberry, seconded by Mr. Shepherd.

 

DEPARTMENT HEADS

Mr. Jean reported that the Air Stripper was still not up and running yet due to timing issues with the various components.   He did expect those issues to be resolved soon.  They also are going to hardwire the well controls to the airstripper building so they are better able to resolve the communications between pumps, wells and system. 

Mr. Snoeberger reported that he was performing a candidate test for a new officer on Saturday January 23rd   and had received 25 applications. 

Mr. O’Farrell reported that the new tanker would be delivered the last week of January. 

Mr. Dismore reported that Mr. Anderson, who had contacted him regarding the condition of an adjoining downtown building, was pleased with the fencing placed around the back of the dilapidated building.  He also reported that he would be gone approximately eleven days in Haiti beginning on the 29th of January. 

 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Mr. Huckleberry made a motion to accept the contract Mr. O’Connor had prepared for Mr. Astell to demolish 708 Perry St.  Mr. Shepherd seconded.  Ms. Negele stated that she would contact Mr. Astell and advise him that the contract has been signed by all parties and the City is ready to proceed.    Mr. O’Connor provided an email from the mortgage company regarding 104 E Washington St.  This email requests two more weeks on the hearing date.  She revealed to Mr. O’Connor that they intend to be able to deed the property over to the Library but are trying to resolve this detail with HUD.   Mr. Huckleberry made a motion to grant them two more weeks and Mr. Shepherd seconded. 

 

NEW BUSINESS

Ms. Negele presented Hannum Wagle Cline Retainer contract for $7,000.  Mr. Huckleberry made a motion to accept and Mr.  Shepherd seconded.

 

 

 

 

CLAIMS

Claims dated on January 20th 2010 for $154,256.62 as shown by the Claims and Allowance docket, was presented to the board.  Mr. Huckleberry made a motion to pay the claims, seconded by Mr. Shepherd. 

 

MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS

Ms. Negele reported that the main copier in the Clerk’s office and the copier in the police station are both over ten years old and have numerous problems.  She was in the process of obtaining quotes from five different vendors and then performing a buyers analysis for comparison to determine the best quality for the price.

 

ADJOURNMENT

There being no further business to be brought before the board;  Mr.  Huckleberry made a motion to adjourn and Mr. Shepherd seconded the motion.
