BOARD OF WORKS & SAFETY

 

January 5,2010

 

The Board of Works and Safety met on the 5th day of January at City Hall at 4:30 p.m.  Members present:  Mrs. Maus, Mr. Roderick, Mr. Tom O’Connor and Ms. Sharon Negele.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Minutes of the regular session held on December 15th, 2009 was approved as prepared on a motion by Mr. Roderick, seconded by Mrs. Maus.

 

DEPARTMENT HEADS

Mr. Jean reported that the Air Stripper was still not up and running yet due to some pump issues.  He did expect those issues to be resolved when a pump expert arrives shortly to diagnose the problem. 

Mr. O’Farrell reported that we may be getting the Tanker before the end of January. 

Mr. Dismore reported that he had issued a demolition permit for 929 S Brady.  He was also investigating a complaint on the condition of 410 West St.  Additionally Mr. Mike Anderson had contacted him regarding the condition of an adjoining downtown building.  Mr. Tom O’Connor suggested they meet separately to review all of the procedures associated with condemnation. 

 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Mr. O’Connor opened the bids for the demolition of 708 Perry St.  Five bids were submitted and read aloud.  The lowest bid was provided by Mike Astell for $7,400.  Mr. O’Connor will prepare the contract and will contact Mr. Astell. 

Mr. O’Connor presented the building commissioners order for corrective action on 705 S. Brady which was for the property to be demolished and leveled.  The owner is Sun Trust Mortgage and they had contacted Mr. O’Connor on 12/15/09 inquiring if they could renovate the property.  Mr. O’Connor has not heard from them after that date.  Mr. Roderick made a motion to enforce the order and Mrs. Maus seconded.  

Mr. O’Connor presented the building commissioners order for corrective action on 140 E. Washington Street,  which was for the property to be demolished and leveled.  Flagstar Mortgage had contacted Mr. O’Connor and asked if they could have an additional 90 days.  Due to the involvement of HUD they will seek help from them to help fund the demolition.  Mr. Roderick made a motion to continue this issue to the next meeting and Mrs. Maus seconded

 

 

CLAIMS

Claims dated on January 5th 2010 for $234,664.74 as shown by the Claims and Allowance docket, was presented to the board.  Mr. Roderick made a motion to pay the claims, seconded by Mrs. Maus. 

 

ADJOURNMENT

There being no further business to be brought before the board;  Mr.  Roderick made a motion to adjourn and Mrs. Maus seconded the motion.
