BOARD OF WORKS & SAFETY

 

July 20, 2010

 

The Board of Works and Safety met on the 20th day in July at City Hall at 4:30 p.m.  Members present:  Mr. Shepherd, Mr. Huckleberry, Mr. O’Connor and Ms. Negele.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Minutes of the regular session held on July 6, 2010 was approved as prepared on a motion by Mr. Huckleberry, seconded by Mr. Shepherd.

 

DEPARTMENT HEADS

Mr. Snoeberger reported that he had a meeting this Friday to attend regarding operation pullover grant application.  It’s a required meeting to attend in order to submit an application.  They also increased the amount to $4,000.  The grant cycle begins in November of this year.  As in the past this pays for officers time spent on seatbelt and DUI checkpoints. They have one remaining this year for the grant cycle that ends in November that will occur over labor day weekend. 

Mr. O’Farrell reported that he was in the process of developing some guidelines for the Adopt a Hydrant project and was pursuing existing templates for designs.  So far they have several groups interested in the project.  They also removed some loose bricks off of the old downtown Buckley building at the request of the Mayor to avoid any mishaps and he also voiced concern over the condition of the old adjoining Roemer building  which he was able to observe while on the lift.  Mr. Shepherd stated that he had inquired with Bell excavating regarding the removal of the building and he had stated that they would need 6-8 weeks due to other jobs and would continue to seek out other potential demolition experts. 

Mr. Dismore  reported that he sent a letter to the owner of a downtown apartment due to water just pouring in thru the ceiling on the tenant.  He also received a complaint from a downtown apartment building renter regarding fire escapes that were padlocked and he sent a letter to the owner requesting the removal of the padlocks.  He received a building permit request from CVS for outside renovations. He also noted that 601 S Brady has not touched the property since the last hearing and it is past the 30 days to correct.  Mr. O’Connor stated that he should begin demolition procedures.  Mr. Dismore reported that he sent a 30 day demolition notice for 201 Hollovy.  He also approved a building permit for a New American Home for 1008 N Perry .  Mr. Shepherd asked Mr. Dismore to look at 1214 Perry .  Mr. Dismore asked about the condition of the porch on the house at the corner of Baxter and Taylor  and Mr. Shepherd stated that he would take a look at the porch.

 

 

 

 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Mr. O’Connor opened the sealed bids on the demolition of 606 N Fifth Street.  Dalton Excavating was $5,500 and Goings Excavating was $9,750.  Mr. Huckleberry made a motion to accept the Dalton Excavating bid and Mr. Shepherd seconded.  Mr. O’Connor stated that he would contact the bidder and arrange a contract.   

 

CLAIMS

Claims dated on July 20, 2010 for $136,357.03 as shown by the Claims and Allowance docket, was presented to the board.  Mr. Huckleberry made a motion to pay the claims, seconded by Mr. Shepherd.

 

ADJOURNMENT

There being no further business to be brought before the board;  Mr.  Huckelberry, made a motion to adjourn and Mr. Shepherd seconded the motion.
