BOARD OF WORKS & SAFETY

March 2, 2010

The Board of Works and Safety met on the 2nd  day in March at City Hall at 4:30 p.m.  Members present:  Mr. Shepherd, Mr. Huckleberry,  Mr. O’Connor and Ms. Sharon Negele.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Minutes of the regular session held on February 16, 2010 was approved as prepared on a motion by Mr. Huckleberry, seconded by Mr. Shepherd.

DEPARTMENT HEADS

Mr. Jean reported that the Airstripper results are in and that the TCE is now below the detectable limit.

Mr. Snoeberger reported that the parking issues on the boulevard area of Brady Streeet have been addressed initially by sending a letter to all of the residents.  He also stated that they will begin addressing junk vehicles and ordinance violations now that the weather appears to be cooperating.

Mr. O’Farrell reported that we are three weeks away from the delivery of the new Triple Combination Pumper.

Mr. Dismore reported that he has numerous complaints about the condition of 410 and 402 West St.  He will be sending out corrective action letters for both properties.  He also was concerned about 200 West Pike which has fire damage on the side of the house and it appears that the wood burning stove is not properly installed and could be the culprit of a future fire if not addressed.  Additionally he mentioned that children resided in the home but would start with a letter of corrective action.  Mr. O’Connor requested that the Board enforce, amend or reject the order for 104 Washington St.  Mr. Huckleberry made a motion to enforce the Building Commissioner’s order for demolition and Mr. Shepherd seconded.   Mr. Shepherd also suggested to Eric that he meet with the former Building Commissioner for insight on some of the problem properties.  Mr. Huckleberry suggested that he aggressively address the problem properties now so that the owners would have a chance during the warmer months to properly address the orders.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Mr. O’Connor opened the sealed bids and reported that the highest bidder for the 1969 Chevy was for $3,251 and $250 for the 1987 Dodge.  Mr. Huckleberry made a motion to accept the highest bids and Mr. Shepherd seconded.
