BOARD OF WORKS & SAFETY

July 5, 2005

The Board of Works and Safety met on the 5th day of July at City Hall at 5:30 p.m. Members present: Mr. Deon Swift, Mrs. Kay Gustus and Ms. Sharon Negele.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Minutes of the regular session held on June 21, 2005 were approved as prepared on a motion by Mrs. Gustus, seconded by Mr. Swift, all ayes.

CLAIMS

Claims in the amount of $166,076.23 as shown by the Claims and Allowance docket, were presented to the board. Mrs. Gustus made a motion to pay the claims, seconded by Mr. Swift, all ayes.

NEW BUSINESS

Mr. Grant reported citizen complaints regarding a home on North Perry St. A considerable amount of trash has been pulled out of a dilapidated garage. A citizen had also complained to him regarding open air burning on the North end. Mr. Jean will investigate both instances and report back.

MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS

Mr. Swift raised the issue of parking on our State Highway 41 and 28. Several citizens have complained about the safety of exiting a side street onto the Highway when cars are lined up along the curb. Mr. O’Conner reminded the board that the city has the ability to create time limits but only the state can place restrictions regarding parking on a highway.

ADJOURNMENT

There being no further business to be brought before the board; Mrs. Gustus made a motion to adjourn and Mr. Swift seconded the motion, all ayes.
