CITY OF ATTICA
BOARD OF WORKS & SAFETY
April 20, 2004

The Board of Works and Safety met on the 20th day of April at City hall at 5:30 p.m. Members present: Mr. Duane Roderick, Mrs. Kay Gustus, Mr. Deon Swift, Mr. O’Connor and Mrs. Pam Sichts.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES Minutes of the regular session held on April 6, 2004 were approved as prepared on a motion by Mrs. Gustus, seconded by Mr. Roderick.

DEPARTMENT HEADS

Mr. Snoeberger reported on the progress of the city clean up effort. The department has tagged 41 vehicles and towed 6. Snoeberger informed the board that Officer Fruits had been injured in the line of duty. Fruits suffered a cut to the back of the head. There was also some damage to equipment that will need to be replaced.

Mr. O’Farrell reported that the pump on the engine had to be repaired by Midwest Fire. It would not hold pressure. He stated that the board should be aware that the vehicle would need to be replaced as soon as it is financially possible.

Ms. Jordan is trying to reach the owners of approximately a dozen properties that need to be cleaned up. Two of the properties have pools with standing water that pose the threat of a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Those owners have been notified that they must drain the pools or the city will do it for them. Mr. O’Connor suggested that the owners of those properties would need to receive a letter from the building commissioner before any action by the city can be taken.

NEW BUSINESS Mr. Swift made the Board of Works aware that the Perry Street Project has been approved by the City Council.

CLAIMS Claims in the amount of 110,303.27 as shown by the claims and allowance docket, were presented to the board. Mrs. Gustus made a motion to pay the claims, seconded by Mr. Roderick.

MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS Liability applications for use of city property are now available.

ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to be brought before the board, Mr. Roderick made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Mrs. Gustus.
