BOARD OF WORKS & SAFETY
April 6, 2004
The Board of Works and Safety met on the 6th day of April at City hall at 5:30 p.m. Members present: Mrs. Kay Gustus, Mr. Deon Swift, and Mrs. Sharon Negele.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES Minutes of the regular session held on March 16th, 2004 were approved as prepared on a motion by Mrs. Gustus, seconded by Mr. Swift.
DEPARTMENT HEADS Mr. Jean reported that the city received a letter stating that IDEM is implementing a new fee schedule for public water suppliers. The fee is $0.95 per service connection per year. The annual fee will be phased in over a three-year period, requiring 1/3 of the established fee in 2004, 2/3 in 2005, and the full fee beginning 2006.
The Police Department will hold an auction on April 24th for the sale of old and excess items. Mr. Snoeberger will advertise the auction in the paper two weeks in advance. The department has issued approximately 20-30 ordinance violations for trash.
Mr. O’Farrell informed the board that he has applied for a Homeland Security Grant. The grant will be a 90/10 match. Among other things, he plans to replace the fire gear and purchase pagers for the department. He also reported that the clutch on Engine 13 is being repaired. Williamsport Fire Dept. is backing them up while the engine is out of commission.
Ms. Jordan has started a list of problem properties within the city. She plans to discuss the list with Tom O’Connor, city attorney.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS Mr. Dave Huckleberry told the council that he has arranged for volunteers for the Spring-Clean up. Mr. Swift has the liability release form.
NEW BUSINESS Mrs. Gustus made a motion to sign the contract for the auctioneer for the April 24th auction. Mr. Swift seconded the motion.
CLAIMS Claims in the amount of 162,369.10 as shown by the claims and allowance docket, were presented to the board. Mrs. Gustus made a motion to pay the claims, seconded by Mr. Swift.
ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to be brought before the board, Mrs. Gustus made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Mr. Swift.
