BOARD OF WORKS AND SAFETY

SEPTEMBER 3, 2002

 

 

The Board of Works and Safety met on the 3rd day of September 2002 at city hall at 5:30 p.m.  Members present:  Mrs. Kay Gustus, Mr. Duane Roderick, Mr. Deon Swift, Mr. Tom O’Connor and  Mrs. Nancy Mitchell.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Minutes of the regular session held on August 20, 2002 were approved as prepared on a motion by Mrs. Gustus, seconded by Mr. Roderick.

 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Building Commissioner Bunny Jordan gave an update on the Dickens’ property.  The police were at the property today and writing citations regarding cars within the fenced in area.  Chief Snoeberger also gave an ordinance violation for the disorder within stating it was a health hazard with mosquitoes and rats. City Attorney O’Connor said Mr. Dickens had called him last week and informed him that he had an attorney in Lafayette.  Mr. O’Connor has written to the attorney but has not yet heard from him.  Ms. Jordan stated his son had been living on the porch and she informed him he could not do so.  She pointed out that Mr. Dickens’ appeal was continued to August 6 at which time he did not appear before the board.  Mayor Swift pointed out that at that Board of Works meeting Mrs. Gustus made a motion for the city clerk and/or the city attorney to authorize the solicitation of bids for the removal of the property, seconded by Mr. Roderick.  The motion carried.  At that time the insurance company said to wait until August 23.  Mayor Swift instructed Mr. O’Connor and Mrs. Mitchell to place a notice to bidders in the newspaper.

 

Mayor Swift informed the board that the city was going to spray for mosquitoes for the next four days this week.  There have been numerous complaints to the clerk’s office, the building commissioner and mayor.  Spraying will begin at 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening, 7 p.m. on Wednesday and again at 8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday evenings.

 

NEW BUSINESS

Mrs. Gustus made a motion to approve the Agreement For Administrative Services at $25,000 with Beumer and Associates, seconded by Mr. Roderick.  All ayes.

 

Mr. Eric Smith, city engineer, opened three bids and read them to the board.  Mrs. Gustus made a motion to table the bids pending the engineering company’s review of the grant administrator and that the board not act upon them until after we receive the release of funds, seconded by Mr. Roderick.  All ayes.

 

 

 

 

CLAIMS

Claims in the amount of $69,786.13 as shown by the claims and allowance docket, were presented to the board.  Mrs. Gustus made a motion to pay the claims seconded by Mr. Roderick.  All ayes.

 

ADJOURNMENT

There being no further business to be brought before the board, Mrs. Gustus made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Mr. Roderick.  All ayes.
