OF WORKS AND SAFETY
APRIL

The
Board of Works and Safety met on the 2nd day of April 2002 at city
hall at 5:30 p.m. Members present: Mrs. Kay Gustus, Mr. Deon Swift, and Mrs.
Nancy Mitchell. Absent: Mr. Duane Roderick and Mr. Tom O’Connor.
APPROVAL
OF MINUTES
Minutes
of the regular session held on March 19, 2002 were approved as prepared on a
motion by Mrs. Gustus, seconded by Mr. Swift.
DEPARTMENT
HEADS
Police
Chief Gene Snoeberger stated that he had placed a notice in the newspaper
informing citizens that the Police Department was going to begin tagging junk
cars in the city. At the present time,
he was waiting for a break in the weather.
Fire
Chief Ed O’Farrell reported he was finishing a FEMA Grant for $59,000
plus. If the grant were awarded, the
fire department would have to fund 10% of it.
He would know by the end of June if it would be received. The purpose of the grant is to purchase
fifteen air packs and six additional masks.
The fire department has not purchased a new air pack in twenty-five
years.
Chief
O’Farrell said he had hired Midwest to service the aerial. He was also planning to speak to them
regarding ladder tests. Pierce had also
done a recall on the aerial resulting in pulleys and proximity switches being
replaced.
CLAIMS
Claims
in the amount of $64,880.40 as shown by the claims and allowance docket, were
presented to the board. Mrs. Gustus
made a motion to pay the claims with the exception of claims # 435, 446, and
455, totaling $601.91, seconded by Mr. Swift.
MISCELLANEOUS
BUSINESS
Ms.
Jordan, Building Commissioner, and Mr. O’Connor stated they were checking on
the status of burned out buildings and would report back at the next meeting.
ADJOURNMENT
There
being no further business to be brought before the board, Mrs. Gustus made a
motion to adjourn, seconded by Mr. Swift.
