BOARD OF WORKS AND SAFETY

APRIL 2, 2002

The Board of Works and Safety met on the 2nd day of April 2002 at city hall at 5:30 p.m.  Members present:  Mrs. Kay Gustus, Mr. Deon Swift, and Mrs. Nancy Mitchell.  Absent:  Mr. Duane Roderick and Mr. Tom O’Connor.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Minutes of the regular session held on March 19, 2002 were approved as prepared on a motion by Mrs. Gustus, seconded by Mr. Swift.

DEPARTMENT HEADS

Police Chief Gene Snoeberger stated that he had placed a notice in the newspaper informing citizens that the Police Department was going to begin tagging junk cars in the city.  At the present time, he was waiting for a break in the weather.

Fire Chief Ed O’Farrell reported he was finishing a FEMA Grant for $59,000 plus.  If the grant were awarded, the fire department would have to fund 10% of it.  He would know by the end of June if it would be received.  The purpose of the grant is to purchase fifteen air packs and six additional masks.  The fire department has not purchased a new air pack in twenty-five years.

Chief O’Farrell said he had hired Midwest to service the aerial.  He was also planning to speak to them regarding ladder tests.  Pierce had also done a recall on the aerial resulting in pulleys and proximity switches being replaced.

CLAIMS

Claims in the amount of $64,880.40 as shown by the claims and allowance docket, were presented to the board.  Mrs. Gustus made a motion to pay the claims with the exception of claims # 435, 446, and 455, totaling $601.91, seconded by Mr. Swift.

MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS

Ms. Jordan, Building Commissioner, and Mr. O’Connor stated they were checking on the status of burned out buildings and would report back at the next meeting.

ADJOURNMENT

There being no further business to be brought before the board, Mrs. Gustus made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Mr. Swift.
