BOARD OF WORKS AND SAFETY

OCTOBER 1, 2002

 

 

The Board of Works and Safety met on the 1st day of October 2002 at city hall at 5:30 p.m.  Members present:  Mr. Duane Roderick, Mr. Deon Swift, Mr. Tom O’Connor, and Mrs. Nancy Mitchell.  Absent:  Mrs. Kay Gustus.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Minutes of the regular session held on September 17, 2002 were approved as prepared on a motion by Mr. Roderick, seconded by Mr. Swift.

 

DEPARTMENT HEADS

Mr. Ron Jean, Director of Public Works, said he had spoken to Mr. Eric Smith, city engineer; Mr. Smith stated he is preparing for the North End Water Project.

 

Mr. Jean reported that painting of the curbs in the downtown area was completed.

 

Police Chief Gene Snoeberger informed the board a Game Room/Pool Hall/Teen Hangout has opened in the basement of the Masonic Lodge Building.  He has made modifications to the October schedule in order to have two people on patrol in the evenings, keeping one person specifically assigned to the downtown area.  He has also requested additional coverage from the Reserve Police for their assistance.  Mayor Swift asked the board and council members present to think about criteria for a game room permit and/or if they think one might be necessary; he would like to discuss it in the near future.

 

Chief Snoeberger reported his department had received a hand-held radar gun.

 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Mr. O’Connor opened bids for the sale of the used police car.  Those were:  Purcell Auto at $745; Beedle’s at $995; Jason Warford at $1,005; and Welcome Motors at $2,080.  Mr. Roderick made a motion to accept Welcome Motors bid of $2,080, seconded by Mayor Swift.

 

CLAIMS

Claims, in the amount of $58,225.46 as shown by the claims and allowance docket, were presented to the board.  Mr. Roderick made a motion to pay the claims, seconded by Mr. Swift. 

 

ADJOURNMENT

There being no further business to be brought before the board, Mr. Roderick made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Mr. Swift.
