BOARD
OF WORKS
SEPTEMBER
4, 2001
The
Board of Works and Safety of the City of Attica met on the 4th day
of September 2001 at city hall at 5:30 p.m.
Members present: Mrs. Kay
Gustus, Mr. Deon Swift, Mr. Tom O'Connor, and Mrs. Nancy Mitchell.
APPROVAL
OF MINUTES
Minutes
of the regular session held on August 21, 2001 were approved as prepared on a
motion by Mrs. Gustus, seconded by Mr. Swift.
DEPARTMENT
HEADS
Police
Chief Gene Snoeberger said he spoke with Mrs. Kim Bauers, the elementary school
principal. On behalf of the school, she
has requested a crosswalk be painted on Washington Street from in front of the
school across to a small sidewalk located in front of Jeff Crane's home that
comes out to the street. Because so
many children cross there, she wants the crosswalk to be defined. Mayor Swift requested Chief Snoeberger to
check with the other neighbors and obtain their opinions on this matter.
Mrs.
Bauers also requested a crosswalk at Washington and Oak Streets. Currently there are parents who park near
the football field on the gravel area to pick up and drop off their
children. Mrs. Bauers would like to
have a defined area rather than have the children walk wherever in order to cross
the street.
The
school would like to have the curb at the loading zone on Washington Street
painted orange to identify it as a drop off zone. Mrs. Gustus made a motion to have the city be responsible for the
paint and labor, seconded by Mayor Swift.
Mayor
Swift reported Dr. Judy Bush, Superintendent, has requested a handicap entrance
be constructed on Washington in front of the school. He told her it would be the school's responsibility to do so.
CLAIMS
Claims,
in the amount of $69,162.03 as shown by the claims and allowance docket, were
presented to the board. Mrs. Gustus
made a motion to pay the claims, seconded by Mayor Swift.
MISCELLANEOUS
BUSINESS
Mrs.
Nancy Mitchell, Clerk/Treasurer, requested a transfer of $1,500 from the money
market to the Attica Police Pension Fund.
Mrs. Gustus made a motion to do the transfer, seconded by Mayor Swift.
ADJOURNMENT
There
being no further business to be brought before the board, Mrs. Gustus made a
motion to adjourn, seconded by Mayor Swift.
