BOARD OF WORKS AND SAFETY

JULY 2, 2001

 

 

The Board of Works and Safety of the City of Attica met on the 2nd day of July 2001 at city hall at 5:30 p.m.  Members present:  Mrs. Kay Gustus, Mr. Deon Swift, and Mrs. Nancy Mitchell.  Absent:  Mr. Tom O’Connor.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Minutes of the regular session held on June 19, 2001 were approved as prepared on a motion by Mrs. Gustus, seconded by Mr. Swift.

 

DEPARTMENT HEADS

Mr. Robert Smith, Director of Public Works, reported that yellow lines had been painted in the three-block area downtown; blacktopping streets had been completed; and, they are now working on potholes.  Mrs. Gustus made a motion for the crosswalks to be painted in the downtown area if monies were available, seconded by Mr. Swift. 

 

Fire Chief Ed O’Farrell said he had been contacting property owners of empty buildings in order to do a safety inspection to make certain they would not be a fire hazard.  He also suggested we might want an ordinance giving a person a numbered amount of days to secure a building after a fire.  Mr. Swift suggested to Mr. O’Farrell to outline such an ordinance and return it to him.

 

Police Chief Gene Snoeberger reported that he and his officers are keeping watch for speeders on Perry Street.

 

CLAIMS

Claims, in the amount of $140,731.63 as shown by the claims and allowance docket, were allowed and ordered paid on a motion by Mrs. Gustus, seconded by Mr. Swift.

 

ADJOURNMENT

There being no further business to be brought before the board, the motion to adjourn was made by Mrs. Gustus, seconded by Mr. Swift.
