OF WORKS
OCTOBER
16, 2001
The
Board of Works and Safety met on the 16th day of October 2001 at
city hall at 5:30 p.m. Members
present: Mrs. Kay Gustus, Mr. Duane
Roderick, Mr. Don Swift, and Mrs. Nancy Mitchell. Absent: Mr. Tom O’Connor.
Mayor
Swift introduced and welcomed Mr. Duane Roderick as the new member of the Board
of Works and Safety.
APPROVAL
OF MINUTES
Minutes
of the regular session held on September 18, 2001 were approved as prepared on
a motion by Mrs. Gustus, seconded by Mr. Roderick. All ayes.
DEPARTMENT
HEADS
Mr.
Robert Smith, Director of Public Works, requested the purchase of an
8-˝
inch V Plow Blade. He is obtaining
quotes from several companies.
Mr.
Smith reported the city is able to purchase biodegradable leaf bags for the
citizens to use. After discussion among
board members, it was decided to purchase 1,000 bags and give them free to
citizens this year. After bagging
leaves, citizens are to put them at the curb and city employees will pick up
the bags. In the year 2002, burning
will be banned within city limits. Bags
will be sold from the clerk’s office at cost at that time.
NEW
BUSINESS
Mrs.
Gustus made a motion to sign the contract with Sentry Roofing for the new roof
for city hall, seconded by Mr. Roderick.
All ayes.
CLAIMS
Claims
in the amount of $82,582.72 as shown by the claims and allowance docket, were
presented to the board. Mrs. Gustus
made a motion to pay the claims, seconded by Mr. Roderick. All ayes.
ADJOURNMENT
There
being no further business to be brought before the board, Mrs. Gustus made a
motion to adjourn, seconded by Mr. Roderick.
All ayes.
