MIAMI BEACH A BOATING AND BATHING BEACH
IN ATTICA, INDIANA
MIAMI BEACH on the Wabash River was
located four miles east of Attica on the Riverside Road and was in
operation at least from 1925 until 1930. Some think it was in
existence for six to eight years.
It was first owned and operated by
John and Frank Fix and William and Frank Pritscher. Later it was
owned by Tom Taylor who sold it to Frank Sheets and Otis Rhode in
July 1930.
This was a family recreation spot
that had concession stands, picnic tables, bathing facilities,
fireworks and a huge stage for entertainment. It drew large crowds
for the time.
According to an ad in the
Fountain-Warren Democrat, there was going to be two concerts on
August 30, 1925 by the Pine Village Orchestra. They were also
making arrangements for Gossett's Bucking Ford for two shows.
Admission was 10 cents.
Others who performed were Lula Bell
and Scotty, Grace Wilson, Sons of the Pioneers, Patsy Montana and
Tom Corwin (he played the jug) ... all from the BARN DANCE of WLS
RADIO, CHICAGO.
One tragedy marred an otherwise
happy place when Virgil Parks, a local resident, was killed on one
of the slides
